Award Winning Empty Homes Partnership work

Celebrations are in order as we have been awarded the Best Local Authority Partnership Award 2014 at the Empty Homes Awards in Birmingham on May 20th for exemplary partnership work with Probe, DISC, PANDA, Giroscope, Goodwin Development Trust and Hull CC.

We are continuing to work closely with the Hull City Council Empty Homes Consortium to identify and bring back into use homes which have been empty for six months or more.

The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday May 20 in Birmingham.

The Hull Empty Homes Partnership impressed a panel of judges made up of industry experts and professionals. The Judging Panel considered the highly developed partnership mechanisms in Hull to be truly exemplary and this was reflected in the delivery being achieved from a standing start in 2012. The submission documented the extensive strands of the partnership and the Partnership was a very worthy winner in this challenging category of the awards.

Over the last two years Winner has been awarded £1million in grants to undertake much needed refurbishment and repairs to local empty homes.

This exciting initiative means that houses which have been empty and fallen into disrepair can be given a new lease of life and reoccupied.

This is how it works:

  • We identify homes that have been empty for long periods of time
  • We buy or lease the property from the owner (for at least 10 years)
  • We use our grant funding from the Department for Communities and Local Government to refurbish the property and bring it up to Decent Homes Standard
  • We let the property to women and children in need of a safe home

To date, we have acquired and refurbished 37 Empty Homes with a further 25 to go in the next year

If you own a property that has been empty for six months or more and would like some help to get it back into use, call us on 01482 790310
